Most homes have beautiful upholstery furniture in their living rooms, dining rooms, man caves, master bedroom suites, guest bedrooms, and even in large master bathrooms. To keep these pieces of furniture, you’ll want to clean the upholstered items regularly.
Upholstery Care
Why upholstery care? All upholstered furniture becomes soiled with use. If you pre-treat your furniture with Scotchgard™ Protector or another protector, most spills will clean up easily on fabric. If you chose not to purchase it, here are a few tips on upholstery care to help prevent any further damage.
Tips for Upholstery Cleaning
- With a white terry cloth towel blot, while the spill is fresh, a dried spill is much harder to remove.
- Fabrics come with cleaning codes so identify what cleaning code is on your fabric. If your material does not come with the code, a cleaning specialist can help you.
- When using a cleaning agent, always follow the exact directions.
- Use distilled water with the cleaner if the tag says w/ or ws.
- Check for colorfastness always prior to actually attempt cleaning.
- Keep a small spill small! Work lightly, blotting from the center to the edges.
- On low heat, speed dry using a hair dryer! It must be low heat!
- Regular vacuuming and prompt cleanup of spills will help maintain the bright, freshly cleaned look for a long time.
Common Cleaning Codes
Here are some universal cleaning codes:
· w- w/s: Clean with water based cleaner.
· s: With no water spot clean with a solvent cleaner.
· ws: Clean with foam from a water-based detergent.
· x: Dry clean only!
Remove Stains, Dirt, and Allergens
Furniture can trap dust, dirt stains, and allergens in fibers. Then, when you sit or lay on your furniture, you breathe in all of those allergens. This is why it is so important to have your furniture cleaned and especially by a professional furniture cleaning company with the best upholstery cleaning agents.
We extract dirt, spots, stains, and allergens from upholstery, using an EPA Safer Choice cleaning solution that doesn’t leave a residue.
A cleaning specialist will use a process called hot water extraction to clean your furniture and upholstery. This is often called steam cleaning because of the steam you see as we clean, but we don’t actually use steam to clean. This cleaning method allows us to remove dirt and stains from your upholstery without leaving behind any residue.
After your upholstery steam cleaning, your furniture will be dry within 2 to 6 hours depending on the type of fabric.
It is also highly recommended to bring in a cleaning specialist to clean your upholstered furniture whenever you have a significant spill or stain, or every six months. With high traffic areas, you may need to get your furniture cleaned more often.
