Questions

Here are some questions that we get asked regularly regarding Auburn Carpet and carpet cleaning.

Do you “Steam Clean”?

Yes, we use a truck-mounted Steam Clean process. It is what people commonly refer to, BUT in industry terms its known as HWE- Hot Water Extraction.

How long does it take the carpet to dry?

It depends on the carpet type, density, fiber type as well as environmental conditions such as hot/cold, humidity, rain, etc. On average, we recommend allowing 4-6 hours for a typical dry time.

How often should I clean my carpet?

It depends on how many people live in the house, the amount of foot traffic, number of pets, etc. Generally, we recommend at least once every 12 months. Some high traffic areas may need more frequent cleaning.

Do I need to apply a “Scotchgard” type protectant?

Yes, you can apply it to most any carpet, but some fiber types need it less than others. Let us identify your fiber type to give you a specific recommendation. It is similar to waxing your car. A protectant protects soils and spills on the carpet from becoming stains and makes the next cleaning even more effective.

Do you move furniture?

Yes, we move furniture. We don’t charge for moving basic items but do not recommend moving large/heavy, or breakable items during a cleaning process.

How often should I vacuum?

We recommend vacuuming one day for each person or pet in the home. Sometimes that makes vacuuming necessary daily.

Can you get stains out?

Many times people call general soils or spots “stains” which should release under normal cleaning. Stains should be inspected and tested to provide an answer if they are removable and the cost to do so. If said spots have been attempted previously by a homeowner, that may have “set-in” the stain and make it permanent in some cases.

What types of payment do you accept?

We will take check, cash, and most major credit cards.

Will cleaning remove the pet odor?

Cleaning alone may not correct pet odors, but should be part of the process. In any odor case, we should inspect to see what is affected and the proper steps to correct them. This is part of a thorough inspection and estimate.

Do you clean Area/Oriental Rugs?

Yes, but we like to inspect them for condition, fiber type, etc. In some cases, these rugs can be cleaned in the home.

Do you clean air ducts?

No, we recommend you using a licensed HVAC company or a company that only cleans ducts, not a carpet cleaner.

Will the (front) door have to be open during the cleaning?

Yes, since we run “Truck-mounted” equipment from the van, the hoses will require the entry point door/s to be partially open. We like to ask that pets in the home be confined to an area separate from where we are working. A/C or heat can be turned off during the process but should remain on afterward to assist in the drying process.

Are your cleaning products harmful/toxic?

The short answer is no. We wouldn’t use anything on a daily basis that would cause us harm either. It is generally no more harsh than your dish soap on your kitchen sink. If you have chemical sensitivities, we can use a “green” type cleaning product upon request.

Is a rainy day, or winter a bad time to clean?

Generally no. As long as your HVAC system is running in the proper mode for the weather/conditions, the carpet will not have a significantly different dry time.

Will the “stains” come back up after its been cleaned?

Generally, in most cases stains do not “come up” from below after cleaning. In our experiences, more often that spot or stain has residue from either what was spilled or tracked on the carpet. This will attract soils at a faster rate than what’s around it. Some things that will “wick” back up are ink stains, pet urine, “water” stains from dirty water, planter, outside water intrusions, etc. If these stains “wick” back up, it will happen during the drying process, not days or weeks down the road. In many cases, proper inspection and testing can prevent those scenarios from occurring.
